Every time I buy a new EMU CD I say “Wow, this is their best yet!” and You Alone is no exception … The crew from EMU have excelled in their latest production, You Alone. It was recorded live in Sydney last July and, although the guys from EMU went out on a limb by recording a live CD, from a listener’s perspective the risk was worth it.
You Alone is of a theological and musical standard far beyond many other live “praise & worship” recordings. It brings people—the musician and the congregation—together around the Gospel which is clearly proclaimed in the lyrics of the songs.
The song I’m listening to as I write this is called We Are His People. It’s one of the new songs on the CD and the words are fantastic—“We, we are God’s people once dead in our sin and now, raised up with Christ in heaven God, rich in his mercy made us all alive in Christ seated with him forever.” Amen!
One of the other new songs on the CD is Servants of the Gospel. I remember this song being sung as the item at the centenary celebrations of the Presbyterian Church of Australia. (So, for everyone who’s been looking for the music—here it is!)
As well as providing some fantastic new songs, You Alone is almost a “best of ” album. It breathes new life into many of the older songs, like Consider Christ, Behold the Lamb of God, Psalm 96 and Thanksgiving, which some congregations have given up on.
Not only is this a fantastic listening CD but it’s also a great resource for churches. EMU continues to provide an alternative to main stream church music that is not only affordable but high quality—lyrically and musically.
You Alone is high on my list of favourite CDs. If your church is just getting into new music this is a great CD to start on. These are great song to start with because they’re being used all over the world and have been for a long time.
And, not only is You Alone great for churches because of the songs that are on it, it’s great because it is an affordable resource. For around $30 you get a CD that not only contains the audio music but also contains the overhead transparency masters and sheet music. What more could you want from a CD?
You Alone is available from the EMU shop (www.emu.mu) and all good Christian bookstores.
